About the role#
The Branding Iron Assistant Editor and Lead Copy Editor supports the editorial production of the student newspaper. You will lead copy editing efforts, manage proofreading, and handle page production. This role works closely with the Editor-in-Chief to maintain publication quality and meet production deadlines.
What you'll do#
- Serve as the lead copy editor, ensuring all content meets accuracy, clarity, and AP style standards.
- Review and edit articles, headlines, and captions before production.
- Design and paginate newspaper pages for both print and digital formats.
- Proofread final layouts and production files to ensure quality.
- Supervise and mentor the copy editing team, including assigning tasks and reviewing work.
- Maintain at least 15 hours of office time per week, including attendance at editorial meetings and production nights.
What you'll need#
- Must be a full-time student with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
- Strong skills in writing, editing, and grammar.
- Ability to work publication deadlines on Sundays and Wednesday nights.
- Availability on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for training.
- Ability to start work on August 24, 2026.
- Experience with newspaper layout or Adobe InDesign is preferred.

- This is an on-site position located in Laramie, Wyoming.
- This is a paid, full-time student role for the Summer 2026 term.
