About the role#
The Branding Iron Editor leads the editorial and production operations for the University of Wyoming student newspaper. This role directs news coverage, manages publication workflows, and maintains journalistic standards. You will supervise a team of editors, designers, writers, and photographers while mentoring student journalists and supporting audience growth.
What you'll do#
- Oversee all editorial operations and publication scheduling.
- Direct story development and manage the editorial planning process.
- Supervise student staff including editors, designers, writers, and photographers.
- Manage the newspaper layout, visual presentation, and print production.
- Ensure editorial accuracy and strict compliance with AP style.
- Collaborate with digital and broadcast teams on multimedia projects.
- Train student journalists in newsroom practices and reporting.
- Attend weekly meetings with supervisors and staff.
- Serve as a primary contact for the Communication and Journalism Department.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a University of Wyoming student with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
- Demonstrated experience in student journalism or a related media organization.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with mastery of AP style.
- Proficiency in page design and production software, specifically Adobe InDesign and the Adobe Creative Suite.
- Proven leadership, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work evenings or weekends as production requires.
- Majors in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, or English are preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Laramie, Wyoming.
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Modality: This is an on-site position requiring work on campus.
- Schedule: Minimum of 20 hours per week, with at least 10 hours completed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- Start Date: August 24, 2026.
- Status: Full-time student role, paid position.
