About the role#
As a Resource Planning Analyst Intern, you will join the Resource Planning team to help shape the future of energy in Colorado. You will study the existing PSCo electric system and emerging generating technologies. This role provides exposure to generation and transmission planning, operations, and regulatory processes. You will contribute to the development of electric resource plans that prioritize safe, reliable, and affordable energy for customers.
What you'll do#
- Support the development and ongoing maintenance of electric resource plans.
- Learn how generation resources are modeled, evaluated, and selected.
- Analyze the benefits of location and resource diversity.
- Study how reliability impacts the future of the Xcel resource portfolio.
- Examine how external factors like electrification and new technology affect system needs.
- Assist with regulatory filings and energy systems modeling.
- Contribute to the development of large scale power plant generation RFPs.
- Complete ad hoc projects and assignments as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior or higher at an accredited college or university.
- Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Finance, Economics, Operations Research, Mathematics, or Business Administration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically strong Excel skills.
- Technical writing skills and the ability to work effectively in teams.
- Proficiency in Python and VBA.
- Experience with optimization modeling and Gurobi is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Denver, Colorado.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Schedule: Full-time during the summer, up to 40 hours per week. Part-time during the school year, up to 20 hours per week.
- Modality: Hybrid, requiring in-person attendance at the designated work location.
- Status: Paid, full-time internship.
