    About the role#

    Join the PSCo Transmission Planning team in Denver, Colorado. This internship offers the opportunity to work on power system issues facing the electric industry. You will work with experienced engineers and subject matter experts to perform studies that support operational reliability and long-term grid expansion. This role is designed for students interested in power system dynamics, EMT analysis, renewable integration, and transmission planning.

    What you'll do#

    • Support transmission planning studies, including steady-state load flow, contingency, and voltage performance analyses.
    • Assist with dynamic and transient stability evaluations to assess system response to disturbances.
    • Develop, update, and validate transmission network models using industry tools like PSS®E, PSLF, TARA, DSATools, and PSCAD.
    • Analyze study results and prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations.
    • Collaborate with transmission planning, operations, protection, and modeling teams.
    • Contribute to special projects involving emerging technologies, renewable energy integration, DOE initiatives, and long-term transmission expansion planning.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a Senior or higher in an ABET accredited college or university.
    • Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, with a preference for graduate students in Power Systems.
    • Completion of at least one course in Power Systems.
    • Demonstrated understanding of fundamental power system concepts.
    • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
    • Experience with power system modeling, simulation, or programming tools.
    • Demonstrated interest in advanced transmission planning topics and applied research.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Denver, Colorado.
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Schedule: Full-time (up to 40 hours per week) during the summer and part-time (up to 20 hours per week) during the school year.
    • Modality: Hybrid, requiring in-person commuting.
    • Status: Paid, full-time internship.
