About the role#
York Space Systems is looking for a Software Engineering Intern to help build software that interacts with real spacecraft hardware. This role focuses on the flight software and integration testing lifecycle. You will work alongside engineers to develop, debug, and test software used to command, monitor, and validate space vehicles. You will gain exposure to embedded Linux systems, spacecraft interfaces, and automated test infrastructure.
What you'll do#
- Develop and test software to support spacecraft flight software, vehicle integration, and automated testing.
- Write Python, C, C++, or Bash code that interacts with embedded systems and spacecraft hardware.
- Build tools to command, monitor, configure, and validate spacecraft subsystems.
- Participate in Software-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop development and testing.
- Connect software to hardware interfaces, networks, telemetry streams, and simulators.
- Debug failures using logs, telemetry, command-line tools, debuggers, and test equipment.
- Develop automated tests that exercise spacecraft functionality and verify expected behavior.
- Participate in technical design discussions and code reviews.
What you'll need#
- Experience developing software for embedded systems.
- Experience with C or C++ on Linux.
- Experience debugging software that communicates with physical devices.
- Ability to work in an on-site environment.
- Permanent authorization to work in the United States.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
