About the role#
This Nurse Extern II role is designed for nursing students expecting to graduate in December 2026. You will join the surgical unit at Aurora Sinai Medical Center, which treats orthopedic, urological, bariatric, and general surgical patients, along with medical and telemetry cases. This position offers a path to transition into a nursing role with the same team after graduation.
What you'll do#
- Complete activities of daily living, vital sign checks, and blood glucose monitoring under the observation of a Registered Nurse.
- Collaborate with the Registered Nurse to establish patient plans of care.
- Evaluate patient responses to interventions and communicate observations to the team.
- Administer medication as delegated by the Registered Nurse.
- Assist with patient positioning and transport duties using proper lifting techniques.
- Develop delegation skills and manage patient care tasks within your shift routine.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program, specifically in your final year, or status as a recent graduate.
- Successful completion of a Medical Surgical course that includes pharmacological concepts.
- Availability to start in September 2026.
- Ability to work 8 hours per week.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods.

- Compensation: $21.85 - $32.80 per hour.
