About the role#
This Nurse Extern II role is designed for nursing students expecting to graduate in December 2026. You will join the Medical Telemetry Observation unit at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center. This position offers an opportunity to gain clinical experience before transitioning into a nursing career with the same team after graduation. The role requires a commitment of 8 hours per week, with shifts scheduled around your academic requirements.
What you'll do#
- Assist with activities of daily living, vital sign collection, and blood glucose monitoring under the observation of a Registered Nurse.
- Collaborate with the nursing team to establish and implement patient care plans.
- Evaluate patient responses to interventions and communicate observations to the Registered Nurse.
- Administer medication as delegated by the Registered Nurse.
- Develop delegation skills for working with Health Unit Coordinators and Nursing Assistants.
- Manage patient data and adapt to changing priorities in a clinical environment.
- Participate in patient positioning and transport duties using proper technique.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program.
- Successful completion of a Medical Surgical course that includes pharmacological concepts.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to frequent interruptions and changing workloads.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods.
