About the role#
The Frederick Keys Grounds Intern is a part-time position designed for current university students earning academic credit. You will work with the grounds team to maintain the stadium facility and playing surface. This internship provides hands-on experience in grounds operations and facility maintenance.
What you'll do#
- Maintain the playing surface through mowing, field marking, fertilization, and irrigation.
- Perform mound and plate repair, edging, skin maintenance, and batting practice setup.
- Clean dugouts and bullpens, and remove field trash.
- Assist with setup and breakdown for stadium events and game days.
- Work with both synthetic and grass surfaces.
- Learn the characteristics of irrigation systems, soil conditioners, fertilizers, and other materials.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a college sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student in Facility Management, Turf Grass science, or a related field.
- Ability to earn academic credit for this internship.
- Experience with landscaping maintenance such as seeding, sodding, and grass cutting.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools and small engine equipment like leaf blowers and string trimmers.
- Physical ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Availability to work mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Willingness to work outdoors in variable weather conditions.

- Location: Frederick, Maryland.
- Term: Summer 2026 (April/May through August 31).
- This is an unpaid internship for academic credit.
