About the role#
The BNSF Tech Internship Program offers current college students a deep dive into the technology organization at BNSF Railway. You will join a team to work on projects that improve operational efficiency, reliability, and innovation across the rail network. The program begins with a two-day in-person orientation at our corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas, followed by remote project work.
What you'll do#
- Write production-quality code for well-defined tasks while following team coding standards.
- Participate in design reviews and write unit or integration tests.
- Debug and fix straightforward issues.
- Develop APIs, automation, and tools to improve platform integration.
- Build and maintain monitoring and alerting systems for services.
- Collaborate with application teams to enhance system reliability and performance.
- Design and operate scalable systems across data centers, edge devices, and the cloud.
- Solve technical challenges by building effective solutions in an agile environment.
- Seek feedback proactively to improve your technical skills.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
- A cumulative GPA of at least 2.75.
- Less than three years of professional work experience, excluding internships or part-time jobs.
- Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design.
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams and communicate with stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technical concepts and adapt to new technologies quickly.
- Familiarity with frameworks such as React, Angular, Node.js, or Spring Boot is preferred.
- You must not require BNSF’s assistance for employment authorization now or in the future.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, remote position based in the contiguous 48 states of the United States.
- The internship term is Summer 2027.
- Travel for business needs may be required up to 20 percent of the time, with expenses covered by BNSF.
