About the role#
As a Drives & Propulsion Systems Engineering Intern at Mercury Marine, you will join a team focused on testing and analyzing propulsion systems for outboard and sterndrive motors. You will work both independently and with experienced engineering professionals to manage projects from start to finish. This role offers the chance to apply academic knowledge to real-world marine engineering tasks.
What you'll do#
- Assist in designing on-water boat tests and work with test technicians to execute them, analyze data, and write reports.
- Request CFD and FEA simulations from the design analysis group for vessel and component-level validation.
- Use load cells to measure propulsor loads during various conditions, including calm water, rough water, and turning operations.
- Feed test and simulation results into 1-dimensional performance prediction models.
- Drive hydrodynamic shape changes for propellers and gearcase components.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Naval Architecture.
- Minimum second semester sophomore status with at least 48 completed credits.
- Ability to work full time during the summer from May to August 2027.
- Experience with Python, Matlab, or similar tools for data analysis.
- Experience designing and executing tests.
- Strong report writing and documentation skills.
- US work authorization is required. This position does not provide visa sponsorship.
