    About the role#

    As a Fire Protection Engineer Intern, you will work with mentors to learn core fire protection principles and analytical methods. You will gain hands-on experience through daily operations, including safety analyses, change management, and facility audits. This internship lasts 10 to 12 weeks and concludes with a presentation of your work to the leadership team.

    What you'll do#

    • Review and update Fire Protection and Industrial Health & Safety Technical Work Records.
    • Inspect building occupancy and oversee fire protection systems.
    • Perform life safety code enforcement and review sprinkler system designs.
    • Conduct hydraulic calculations and service water design reviews.
    • Assist with fire protection equipment inspections.
    • Participate in manufacturing facility audits and support Emergency Team readiness.
    • Edit and review facility fire and emergency plans.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in a B.S. or M.S. degree program in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering, or a related technical or science field with a focus on Fire Protection.
    • U.S. Citizenship is required.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q clearance.

    • Location: Lynchburg, Virginia.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Compensation: This is a paid position at $29.50 per hour.
    • Housing stipend: Available for interns whose home of record is more than 50 miles from Lynchburg.
