About the role#
This is a paid, 12-week internship for Summer 2027 based in San Francisco. You will join a cohort of interns to cover Bay Area sports teams and related issues. The role involves reporting from the office and the field, including breaking news and game-day coverage. You will receive training and mentoring from editors and colleagues while learning how a modern digital news operation functions.
What you'll do#
- Write news articles for the Chronicle and SFChronicle.com.
- Engage readers using social media, visuals, graphics, and alternative story forms.
- Brainstorm and research story ideas.
- Collaborate with team members on art direction, project coordination, and story execution.
- Participate in training sessions alongside other interns.
What you'll need#
- Current college student or recent graduate with an associate or bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or Media Studies.
- Strong writing skills.
- A strict dedication to accuracy, fairness, and inclusiveness.
- Ability to compete for stories and hustle in a newsroom environment.
- Curiosity and empathy.
- Comfort with collaboration and the feedback process.
- Previous college publication experience or prior internships are preferred.

- Duration: 12 weeks, typically June through August.
- Schedule: Full-time. Weekend, evening, and holiday work may be required based on the news cycle and game schedules.
