About the role#
The Marketing and Communications department is seeking a student to capture visual content for university social media channels. You will work under the direction of the Social Media Specialist and Marketing Director to document campus life, student activities, and key university events. This position involves close collaboration with the Digital Media Ambassador to produce photo and video assets that reflect the student experience.
What you'll do#
- Capture photo and video content at campus events and daily student activities.
- Film short-form video content like Instagram Reels and TikToks, often featuring the Digital Media Ambassador.
- Take candid and posed photos of students and campus spaces.
- Assist the Digital Media Ambassador with filming, setting up shots, and capturing multiple angles.
- Edit photos and assist with basic video editing for social media.
- Contribute assets to the marketing content library and participate in monthly brainstorming meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student status in any major.
- An interest in photography, videography, or content creation.
- Strong attention to detail and an eye for visual composition.
- Ability to take initiative and capture moments in real time.
- Reliable, organized, and communicative work habits.
- Experience with a camera, smartphone, or editing tools like Adobe or CapCut is preferred but not required.
Location & details#
- This is a paid position at $11 per hour.
- Work is located on-site in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
- You will work roughly 5 to 10 hours per week.
- Two hours of in-office work are required per week at the Beatty House on the Shadyside Campus.
- Most work occurs Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., though some event coverage may be arranged.
- You do not need to own a camera to apply for this role.
