About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience in a Pediatric Level I Trauma and Surgical Center. You will work within a team covering nine surgical specialties, including trauma, neurosurgery, and cardiovascular surgery. This is a paid, full-time position with a rolling term.
What you'll do#
- Prepare for surgical procedures by arranging sterile setups, including instruments, sponges, and sutures.
- Assist surgeons by passing instruments, holding retractors, and anticipating equipment needs.
- Scrub for simple and intermediate surgical cases while following aseptic practices.
- Manage room turnover and ensure all supplies are ready before procedures begin.
- Perform sponge and needle counts throughout the surgery.
- Identify and prepare surgical specimens for the circulating nurse.
- Monitor and report any issues with equipment or supply levels.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a Surgical Technology Program, with graduation expected within one year.
- Proof of program enrollment.
- Current BLS Healthcare Provider CPR certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or National Safety Council.
