    About the role#

    First Year Mentors (FYM) help freshmen transition into academic and collegiate life at Columbia College. You will work within the Division of Student Affairs to help new students connect with faculty, staff, and campus resources. This is a part-time, paid position that runs from March through December 2026.

    What you'll do#

    • Collaborate with Foundations faculty to assist in the facilitation of course curriculum.
    • Facilitate and assess Welcome Week programs mandated for Foundations students.
    • Coordinate and implement half-hour long, one-on-one meetings with each student in your assigned class to provide support.
    • Help recruit and train future students for the FYM program.
    • Meet regularly with the Foundations coordinator and faculty members.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment as a full-time student on the traditional campus in Columbia, Missouri.
    • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
    • Ability to return to campus 7 to 9 days prior to the start of the fall semester for training and event preparation.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard database systems.
    • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
