    About the role#

    The Fault Analysis team works to ensure electric grid reliability by analyzing system events around the clock. As an intern, you will work with a supervisor or senior engineer mentor to gain experience in power systems, substation communications, and software development. This role involves a mix of field work and office tasks to support transmission operations and operational decision-making.

    What you'll do#

    • Set up and commission monitoring equipment.
    • Design wiring standards for new equipment.
    • Provide fault location analysis for Electric Transmission stakeholders.
    • Support substation communications with the Regional Operations Center and System Operations Center SCADA systems.
    • Develop software applications, tools, and dashboards to support transmission operations.
    • Create and maintain business-critical applications, including designing APIs and automated workflows.
    • Collaborate with Distribution Engineering and manufacturers on monitoring technology pilot projects.
    • Assist with database administration, including troubleshooting, testing, and performance optimization.
    • Draft technical documentation, user guides, and support materials.
    • Participate in safety, training, and human performance initiatives.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in a bachelor's degree program for Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering at an ABET accredited university.
    • A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
    • Basic knowledge of electrical engineering principles such as power systems and transmission equipment.
    • Familiarity with software development concepts and experience with C#, Python, JavaScript, or SQL.
    • Experience with source control tools like Git.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret technical data.
    • Familiarity with relational databases, APIs, and data visualization techniques.
