    About the role#

    This graduate internship provides technical support to the Distribution Grid Planning Strategic Initiatives and Grid Modeling Analytics team. You will work on power system analysis, distribution grid modeling, and data analytics. Assignments are structured with clear objectives and performed under the guidance of experienced engineers. You will contribute to projects involving grid resiliency, grid modernization, and integrated distribution planning.

    What you'll do#

    • Support distribution system studies, data analysis, and modeling efforts for long-range planning.
    • Develop and maintain Python scripts to automate data processing, model preparation, engineering calculations, and reporting workflows.
    • Apply power engineering concepts to support load flow analysis, voltage analysis, reliability studies, and forecasting.
    • Maintain and manage data for distribution grid load and DER forecasting.
    • Perform time series simulations, including dynamic and transient analysis.
    • Analyze infrastructure interdependencies related to thermal, voltage, and reliability criteria.
    • Support the evaluation and design of utility solutions and non-wires alternatives.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in electrical engineering, power systems engineering, or a related field.
    • A 3.0 GPA or above.
    • Graduation date in Fall 2027 or Spring 2028.
    • Strong academic or research background in electric power systems, distribution systems, grid planning, or renewable integration.
    • Proficiency in Python coding, including experience with data analysis, automation, scripting, and visualization tools.
    • Familiarity with power system analysis concepts is preferred.
    • Experience with large datasets, engineering models, or databases is preferred.
    • Knowledge of substation equipment, relay operations, and power station operations is a plus.
    • Exposure to power system modeling software such as Synergi Electric, CYME, PSS/E, PSCAD, ASPEN, MATLAB, or OpenDSS is preferred.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Richmond, Virginia.
    • Work Modality: Hybrid (one week in office, one week teleworking).
    • Compensation: $37.00 per hour.
    • Employment Type: Full-time.
