About the role#
We are looking for a Technical Art Intern to join the Rocket League team. You will work between artists and engineers to build tools, author real-time materials, and profile game scenes. Your work will contribute directly to playable builds that ship to players.
What you'll do#
- Build small pipeline tools and scripts to automate repetitive tasks for artists working on arenas, vehicles, and cosmetics.
- Profile arenas and assets in-engine to identify and fix issues with draw calls, overdraw, texture memory, LODs, and vertex budgets.
- Author and iterate on real-time materials and shaders for game surfaces.
- Take assets from Maya, Blender, or Substance through to an optimized setup in-engine and validate them in a playable build.
- Collaborate with technical artists, rendering engineers, and environment artists to unblock issues and document your findings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in, or recent graduation from, a Technical Art, Computer Science, Digital Media, or Game Development program.
- Scripting experience in Python, C#, or a DCC scripting API.
- Hands-on experience with at least one 3D package such as Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender, along with the Substance suite.
- Working knowledge of Unreal Engine.
- A portfolio or reel that showcases your technical art work, such as tools, shaders, procedural systems, or optimization case studies.
- Understanding of real-time rendering fundamentals including lighting, shading, UV layout, and performance budgets.
Location & details#
- This position is based on-site in Cary, North Carolina.
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- The internship term is rolling with a flexible start date in 2027.
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the internship.
