    About the role#

    GE HealthCare is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Co-op to join the Life Supporting Systems business segment in Madison, Wisconsin. You will work on anesthesia and infant care products within a regulated medical device environment. This role provides hands-on experience across the product lifecycle, focusing on design, testing, and analysis to support patient safety and product reliability. You will be paired with a manager and mentor to guide your project assignments.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist senior engineers with the design, development, and testing of mechanical components and assemblies.
    • Conduct CAD modeling and drafting using industry-standard software.
    • Perform mechanical analyses such as stress, thermal, and fluid dynamics simulations under supervision.
    • Design test fixtures and collect data to support design verification.
    • Analyze test results, write reports, and share findings with engineering teams.
    • Participate in design reviews and contribute to problem-solving initiatives.
    • Maintain engineering documentation, including specifications, drawings, and procedures.
    • Work with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master degree program in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering with a mechanical emphasis.
    • Solid grasp of engineering principles like statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, and thermodynamics.
    • Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks or Creo.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
    • Capacity to work both independently and within a team.
    • Preferred: GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
    • Preferred: Proficiency in CAD and experience with FEA software like ANSYS or ABAQUS.
    • Preferred: Previous internship or co-op experience in a relevant industry.
