About the role#
This internship provides students with exposure to the GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy business. You will work onsite with customers to support legacy fleet reactors. The role begins in January 2027 and involves project work at our Wilmington, North Carolina site, as well as travel to domestic nuclear refueling outages.
What you'll do#
- Perform maintenance and inspection activities on Boiling Water Reactors.
- Attend entry level technical training to build your skills.
- Work as part of high-performance teams to ensure safe and error-free project delivery.
- Travel to domestic plant sites as needed.
- Assist with shorter duration projects at the Wilmington, NC facility when not on outage assignments.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a full-time undergraduate program with a primary major in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Industrial, Environmental, or Computer Engineering, or Physics or Nursing.
- A minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA without rounding.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 70% of the time to domestic plant sites.
- A strong customer service mindset.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to pass a background investigation, drug screen, and fitness for duty requirements to obtain unescorted access at a commercial nuclear power plant.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including weekends, when required for project delivery.
- Ability to work in radiation-controlled or radioactively contaminated areas.
- A valid US driver's license.
