About the role#
The Manufacturing Engineer Intern supports our engineering team through hands-on projects and daily operational tasks. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
What you'll do#
- Design manufacturing aids including weld fixtures, assembly fixtures, and material handling devices.
- Update engineering designs and drawings to improve product manufacturability.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects focused on safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Inspect production parts and fixtures to determine root causes and validate tolerances.
- Gather data to support problem solving and new process development.
- Test and evaluate products or processes and implement performance changes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical problems.
- Develop and review engineering plans for plant layout and equipment improvements.
- Prepare reports and studies to recommend engineering solutions.
- Perform inspections of systems and structures during construction.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain reliable attendance.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret manufacturing and engineering documents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
- Strong analytical skills and a team-oriented mindset.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, including fabrication, welding, and assembly.
- Ability to decompose costing to identify root causes and make data-backed assumptions.
- Formalized training or experience in 3D modeling and drafting is preferred, with Solidworks experience highly valued.
- Familiarity with design for manufacturing principles is preferred.
