About the role#
The Refugee Economic Empowerment Intern supports the International Rescue Committee in helping humanitarian immigrants achieve self-sufficiency. Working under the supervision of employment specialists, you will assist clients in navigating the job market and accessing essential services. This role is based in Silver Spring, Maryland, for the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Assess new clients to develop individual employment plans.
- Draft and refine resumes and cover letters for clients.
- Conduct outreach to research and identify potential employer partners.
- Manage the distribution and tracking of in-kind donations.
- Maintain accurate records of service provision through electronic data entry.
- Assist clients with completing job applications and finding job leads.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program, or recent graduation within the last 12 months.
- Ability to commit to at least 24 hours per week for a three-month period.
- Strong digital literacy and the ability to learn new software systems.
- Capacity to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Genuine interest in working with refugee and humanitarian populations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship, though participants may be eligible for a per diem reimbursement of $15 per day to offset travel and food costs.
