About the role#
This 10-week internship provides PhD students a look into research at Jump Trading. You will work on real problems using live market data. The program begins with two weeks of training on our research process, machine learning, statistics, and market mechanics. You will then join a trading team to work on a project tied to live business needs. This role is a primary pathway to a full-time offer.
What you'll do#
- Partner with a trading team to own a research project from start to finish.
- Collect, clean, and explore large datasets to engineer predictive signals.
- Build, fit, and evaluate models using our supercomputing grid.
- Present your findings to your team throughout the summer, including a final presentation.
- Receive daily 1:1 mentorship from experienced quantitative researchers.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program for Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Operations Management, or Economics.
- Experience conducting an in-depth research project with real-world data.
- Programming skills in Python, including the ability to read, understand, and debug code.
- The ability to explain your research choices and the alternatives you considered.
- Creativity and initiative to explore ideas beyond those suggested to you.
- A collaborative working style and the ability to communicate results early and often.
- Proficiency in C++ and familiarity with financial markets are helpful but not required.
