About the role#
The Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) Payments team evaluates and advances technologies to improve payment capabilities, operational efficiency, and member experiences. As a Payments AI Engineer Summer Associate, you will support research, analysis, prototyping, and technology evaluation efforts. This 12-week program runs from May 2027 to August 2027 and offers exposure to AI, machine learning, digital assets, stablecoin, and payment modernization initiatives.
What you'll do#
- Research and evaluate stablecoin and digital asset technologies for potential financial services applications.
- Design and develop AI-driven proof-of-concepts to improve operational efficiency, decision-making, and member experiences.
- Build prototypes, scripts, and test automation solutions to demonstrate business value and technical feasibility.
- Support innovation initiatives through technical analysis, project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and executive reporting.
- Develop AI use cases using modern tools, data platforms, and frameworks.
- Assess emerging technologies for feasibility and document findings for presentation to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, cybersecurity, and business teams.
- Support daily ETS Payments strategy, engineering, and operations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field, with an anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Knowledge of blockchain, stablecoin, and cryptocurrency payment technologies.
- Knowledge of basic strategic planning frameworks and structured problem-solving techniques.
- Strong technical research, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated or applied experience with fintech, digital payments, blockchain, stablecoin, or digital asset technologies.
- Experience conducting technical research and synthesizing findings into presentations, reports, or recommendations.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site, full-time, paid internship.
- Primary locations: Vienna, Virginia or Pensacola, Florida.
- Working hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
