About the role#
As a Student Lab Technician at Okanagan College, you will support the day-to-day operations of the BCBTAC laboratory. You will work under the supervision of the Manager to organize equipment, manage supplies, and ensure the lab runs efficiently. This is a part-time, non-regular student position.
What you'll do#
- Prepare equipment and materials for analytic tests, including solutions, media, and cultures.
- Maintain lab equipment such as glassware, microscopes, and analytical instruments.
- Conduct lab safety inspections and ensure compliance with biosafety and chemical safety practices.
- Manage the safe storage of chemicals and handle the collection and disposal of hazardous and glass waste.
- Keep accurate records of lab inventory, test results, and confidential client data.
- Ensure all documentation meets regulatory standards.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a post-secondary program at Okanagan College, preferably in a science field.
- Proficiency in computer software applications and basic lab tasks like cleaning and making reagents.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and clear communication abilities.
- Ability to lift and move equipment or supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Capability to distinguish colors for interpreting colorimetric tests.
- Prior work experience in a laboratory setting is an asset.
