About the role#
The Space Object Risk Department serves as the focal point for assessing and mitigating risks related to space object conjunctions. You will support real-time operations for launch and on-orbit collision avoidance, as well as debris-generating events. This role involves working within the Enterprise Effects Division to integrate strategic capabilities across the national space enterprise.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to various focus areas within the department.
- Apply and develop analysis tools and techniques.
- Work with department staff as part of a project team.
- Provide technical expertise in space traffic management, space object tracking, orbit determination, electro-optical interference, space environment projection, and discrete event modeling.
- Manage multiple, simultaneous projects with support from mentors.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment in a Master's or PhD program for Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
- Ability to work full-time for at least 10 weeks outside of the university term.
- Intent to return to your degree program full-time after the internship.
- Aptitude in astrodynamics and related mathematics.
- Experience developing and using computer software tools.
- U.S. citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
- Submission of transcripts.

- This internship is based on-site in Chantilly, VA, El Segundo, CA, or Colorado Springs, CO.
- The position is full-time and paid.
