About the role#
The Vehicle and Ground Concepts Department (VGCD) provides conceptual design, trade analysis, and modeling for space and ground systems. As a graduate intern, you will contribute to early-stage design studies and develop the tools that support our engineering teams. You will work on projects that support the US Space Force, NASA, the Intelligence Community, and other commercial and international partners.
What you'll do#
- Lead and support early-stage design studies for spacecraft and ground concepts.
- Develop, maintain, and improve the models and tools used for spacecraft design and analysis.
- Collaborate with VGCD staff, program office personnel, and other members of the engineering group.
- Participate in both individual tasks and large, multidisciplinary team efforts.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment in a graduate program (Master's or Ph.D.) in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 (transcripts are required).
- Availability to work full-time for at least 10 weeks outside of the university term.
- Ability to return to your graduate program full-time after the internship.
- Advanced knowledge or relevant coursework in spacecraft subsystems, ground systems design, or systems engineering.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with collaboration tools like MS Office.
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- The role is 100% on-site in either El Segundo, California, or Chantilly, Virginia.
