About the role#
The Christman Company is hiring Estimating Engineer Interns for our Summer 2027 program in Knoxville, Tennessee. This full-time, paid internship provides hands-on experience in the construction industry. You will work on-site and learn about various building types and project delivery methods.
What you'll do#
- Read and interpret project drawings and specifications.
- Quantify materials from drawings.
- Learn to use 2D On-Screen Takeoff and 3D QTO technologies.
- Organize quantity takeoffs for audits.
- Estimate interiors and learn basic structural or civil estimating.
- Contact and follow up with trade contractors and suppliers to gather pricing.
- Use software for document control and distribution.
- Gain familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Visit active project sites to see construction processes in progress.
- Assist with 4D models and Virtual Design and Construction tasks if focused on a BIM concentration.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior.
- Pursuit of a bachelor degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Authorization to work in the United States (sponsorship is not available).
- Completion of pre-employment drug and background screening.
