About the role#
The Medical Assistant Externship Coordinator connects academic preparation with real-world healthcare practice. You will build partnerships with externship sites to help students gain clinical experience. This role focuses on student outcomes and program success by managing placements and ensuring students are ready for the workforce.
What you'll do#
- Build and manage a network of externship sites for Medical Assistant students.
- Visit sites to evaluate student performance and maintain relationships with partners.
- Guide students on professionalism, attendance, and performance expectations.
- Support students with resume writing, interview preparation, and professional development.
- Ensure all externship activities comply with federal, state, and accreditation standards.
- Promote the externship program through outreach to the local medical community.
- Track student progress, including timecards, evaluations, and affiliation agreements.
- Work with Career Services to help students transition into full-time employment.
What you'll need#
- Minimum of 3+ years of practical experience in the medical assisting field.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential.
- Strong foundation in clinical practices.
- Passion for mentoring and supporting student success.
- CPR certification is preferred.
