About the role#
The School of Medicine Space and Facilities Planning team is looking for an intern to assist with the collection, verification, and entry of space utilization data. You will work directly with the planning team and departmental administrators to gain hands-on experience in facilities management and operations. This is a paid position for students who have received and accepted federal work study.
What you'll do#
- Conduct systematic walkthroughs of administrative and research spaces to document current room usage and occupants.
- Verify room numbers, functional space types, and room assignments.
- Engage with departmental administrators to confirm the operational use of spaces and gather contextual details.
- Compile findings into organized reports and reconcile records against the space database and spreadsheets.
- Maintain detailed notes and photographs to support data documentation.
- Participate in regular check-ins to discuss your progress and challenges.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at the University of Virginia.
- Willingness to learn and take initiative.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to walk or stand for extended periods.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams.
Location & details#
- Location: McKim Hall, Charlottesville, Virginia.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per week.
- Pay: $20.00 per hour.
- Term: This is a rolling position that begins as soon as it is filled and currently runs through May 8, 2027.
