About the role#
The Animal Science department is hiring a student assistant to help manage daily operations at the university meat laboratory. This role focuses on post-operation tasks, carcass fabrication, and general meat processing. You will work directly with the meat laboratory manager to support teaching, research, and extension activities.
What you'll do#
- Perform slaughter, fabrication, and processing of meat animals.
- Clean and sanitize the state-inspected meat processing plant.
- Operate tools and equipment used in meat processing.
- Assist with daily operations and program needs for Cowboy Branded Meats.
- Lift 35lbs for 50% of your shift, 50lbs for 30% of your shift, and 75lbs for 20% of your shift.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at the University of Wyoming.
- A confirmed and accepted work study award through Student Financial Aid.
- Reliability, responsibility, and punctuality.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Previous meat processing experience is preferred but not required.
Location & details#
- This position is based on-site at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming.
- The role is paid at $12 per hour.
- This is a part-time, rolling appointment.
