About the role#
The Animal Science Department is hiring a student assistant to help manage daily operations at the university meat laboratory. This role focuses on pre-operation tasks, carcass fabrication, and meat processing within a state-inspected facility. You will work directly with the meat laboratory manager to support ongoing teaching, research, and extension activities.
What you'll do#
- Perform slaughter, fabrication, and processing of meat animals.
- Conduct cleaning and sanitation of the processing facility.
- Assist the laboratory manager with daily facility operations.
- Support research and teaching projects as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at the University of Wyoming.
- Eligibility for and acceptance of a work study award through Student Financial Aid.
- Ability to lift 35 lbs for 50% of your shift, 50 lbs for 30% of your shift, and 75 lbs for 20% of your shift.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Previous meat processing experience is preferred.
