About the role#
The Visual Media Editor leads visual storytelling for Student Media. You will oversee photography, videography, graphics, page design, and multimedia production across the student newspaper, website, and broadcast platforms. This role ensures content is accurate and consistent with editorial standards while mentoring student contributors.
What you'll do#
- Direct the planning, creation, and publication of visual content including photos, videos, and infographics.
- Assign, supervise, and mentor student staff members.
- Coordinate visual coverage for campus news, athletics, and special events.
- Train staff on production techniques, equipment, and editing software.
- Ensure all content meets journalistic ethics and accessibility standards.
- Collaborate with editors and reporters to ensure visuals complement editorial coverage.
What you'll need#
- Current status as a full-time student with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
- Experience in photography, videography, graphic design, or visual journalism.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software.
- Understanding of design principles and multimedia storytelling.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet production deadlines.
- Access to a digital camera.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site position based in Laramie, Wyoming.
- The role is full-time and paid.
- You must be available for publication deadlines on Sundays and Wednesday nights.
- Weekly training sessions are held on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
