About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027 based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. You will join the Hydro Operations team to support the reliable and efficient operation of hydroelectric renewable generation assets. This role offers practical field experience and mentoring to help you build professional and technical skills in dam safety and hydro operations.
What you'll do#
- Attend annual dam safety inspections with Operations staff and regulatory agencies.
- Participate in risk evaluations to understand how dam safety work is prioritized.
- Support construction observation activities at hydro facilities.
- Review plans and specifications for dam safety projects.
- Assist in preparing technical reports and reviewing federal regulatory requirements.
- Learn about the history of hydroelectric facilities and the design features of dams.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a sophomore or higher in an ABET accredited college or university.
- Pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering.
- Course work in engineering statics, engineering mechanics, soil mechanics, hydraulics and hydrology, and structural analysis and design.
- Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and technical writing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Interest in dam engineering and hydropower.
Location & details#
- Location: Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
- Work Modality: Hybrid and on-site. You must be able to travel to hydroelectric facilities throughout northwestern Wisconsin at least 25% of the time.
- Schedule: Full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours per week).
- Start Date: May 24, 2027.
- Note: This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the initial summer term.
