About the role#
This internship is based at the Dakota Gasification Company in Beulah, North Dakota. You will support the maintenance and development of safety management systems designed to prevent accidents, injuries, and property damage. The role runs from approximately May 17, 2027, through August 20, 2027.
What you'll do#
- Support Compliance, Safety, and Industrial Hygiene programs to ensure regulatory standards are met.
- Develop a working knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations.
- Conduct industrial hygiene surveys across the plant to identify potential exposure to hazardous materials.
- Advise field supervisors on the selection and use of protective equipment.
- Assist in creating and presenting safety training programs for employees.
- Help investigate basic accidents or injuries and prepare internal reports for corrective action.
- Manage the development and maintenance of the company Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database.
- Support the annual Family Night event, including setup and cleanup.
- Perform continuous improvement observations and follow-up tasks.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driver license.
- Enrollment as a full-time student in a four-year Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related program.
- Completion of your sophomore year or graduation within the last 12 months.
- A minimum GPA of 2.5.
- A transcript is required at the time of application.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Previous internship or relevant work experience is preferred, as are additional certifications or coursework in the field.
- Ability to meet physical demands, including working in field conditions, climbing, and respirator qualification.
