About the role#
Bond Vet offers a DVM Student Externship for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. This program provides hands-on experience in a clinic environment. You will work with patients, assist with procedures, and observe surgeries under the guidance of our doctors and veterinary team. This externship is for credit and lasts between two and three weeks.
What you'll do#
- Interact with pet parents.
- Review medical records and take patient history.
- Perform physical exams.
- Observe the development of treatment plans, estimate creation, and presentation.
- Assist the treatment team with administering medications, SQ fluids, and IV fluids.
- Place urinary catheters in male dogs.
- Draw blood on stable animals from Cephalic and Saphenous veins.
- Help use ultrasound to identify anatomy.
- Scrub in and assist in procedures under supervision.
- Observe sample preparation for reference laboratory testing.
- Prepare and review ear cytology and blood smear samples.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in your 3rd or 4th year of an AVMA-accredited DVM program.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
- An open mind and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to uphold confidentiality standards.
- Physical capability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform tasks like bending, crouching, squatting, and carrying equipment.
- Proof of medical insurance, rabies vaccine or titer, tetanus vaccine, and a recent TB test.

- Location: Brooklyn, New York.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Rolling applications. Weekend hours may be required based on school requirements and the supervising doctor's schedule.
- Note: This is an unpaid externship. You must arrange your own housing and transportation.
