About the role#
This position supports rocky intertidal monitoring projects. You will work with the Principal Investigator and other research associates to collect and analyze data. This is a part-time, non-benefited role for graduate students in the Smith lab. Hours vary from 0 to 25 per week based on the field schedule.
What you'll do#
- Conduct field research at rocky intertidal locations, primarily between Los Angeles and San Diego.
- Prepare and pack field gear.
- Perform data entry, quality assessment, and analysis.
- Write project reports.
- Maintain equipment and manage logistics.
What you'll need#
- Current or upcoming graduate student status in Dr. Jayson Smith’s lab.
- Prior volunteer or work experience with Dr. Smith at Cal Poly Pomona.
- Ability to hike long distances over unstable rocks and navigate steep cliffs while carrying gear.
- Familiarity with identifying rocky intertidal seaweeds and invertebrates is preferred.
- Experience with MARINe protocols and data analysis is a plus.
