About the role#
This Student Nurse Intern position is based at The Orthopedic Hospital in Fort Wayne. It is designed for students in their final year of an accredited nursing program who want to gain inpatient orthopedic experience. You will work under the direct supervision of registered or licensed practical nurses to support patient care and unit operations.
What you'll do#
- Assist nursing staff with delegated patient care services.
- Collect and record patient data including vital signs, height, weight, and intake/output.
- Help patients with daily activities like meals, bathing, grooming, and skin care.
- Support patient mobility by assisting with positioning, ambulation, and the use of walkers or wheelchairs.
- Perform blood glucose monitoring and collect urine or stool samples.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment while following infection control protocols.
- Communicate patient information to the healthcare team.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a nursing program.
- Ability to obtain Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
- Up to 2 years of experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
- Certification as a CNA or CPCT is preferred.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work as part of a team.
