About the role#
This co-op position supports technology development within the telecommunications field. You will use engineering principles to design, build, and evaluate prototype products such as fiber optic connectors and enclosures. You will work on projects involving plastic injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, rapid prototyping, and optical design.
What you'll do#
- Lead small projects of limited scope and manage your own priorities to meet objectives.
- Create 2D and 3D CAD designs for new components and assemblies.
- Build and evaluate prototypes and test systems.
- Coordinate and plan experiments, then analyze results using engineering principles and statistical tools.
- Prepare oral and written reports to summarize findings for technical teams in Development, Engineering, and Operations.
- Engage with cross-functional project teams to solve problems and meet project requirements.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a BS or MS program for Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
- Completion of first and second year engineering studies.
- Ability to work with your hands to build prototypes and test systems.
- Proficiency with MS Office programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for presenting technical information.
- Experience with CAD design software is required, while experience with Creo, Unigraphics NX, or PLM software is preferred.
