About the role#
This summer internship at the North Anna Power Station provides hands-on experience in electric transmission and distribution. You will work alongside System Protection Technicians to learn about substation electrical equipment, protective relays, and control circuit troubleshooting. This role is intended for students interested in technical operations and fieldwork.
What you'll do#
- Review and interpret electrical design drawings.
- Help with infrared scans and basic instrument checkout and repair.
- Participate in high-voltage diagnostic testing and relay testing.
- Support functional testing of protection systems and control circuits.
- Shadow technicians to gain insight into field operations and substation equipment.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a 2-year or 4-year degree program in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technology field.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- An anticipated graduation date of Winter 2026 or later.
- Strong math, technical, and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to solve problems involving mechanical or electrical equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work well in a team.
- Good time management and organization.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and meet a weight restriction of 290 lbs due to equipment limits.
