About the role#
As a Seismology Intern, you will join the team responsible for geothermal site selection and operational risk management. You will work on a specific project for the duration of your internship, which you will present to department leads and executive leadership at the end of the term. You will work directly with our teams to address real business challenges related to seismic risk.
What you'll do#
- Analyze historic, geologic, and geographic datasets to refine site-specific risk assessments.
- Review operational data to improve the accuracy of real-time risk forecasting.
- Test existing risk analysis tools and identify ways to improve their predictive power.
- Process data for input into internal risk analysis software.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an advanced undergraduate, masters, or early PhD student in a STEM field, specifically Physics, Mathematics, or Statistics.
- Proficiency in data analysis, statistics, and mathematics.
- Strong programming skills, with a preference for Python.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present findings to stakeholders.
- A proactive approach to learning and adapting to new challenges.
- Experience with GIS is preferred.
- Prior experience working with earthquake data, such as OpenQuake, is a plus.
