    About the role#

    This summer internship is a partnership program for students enrolled in the Mining Engineering program at Virginia Tech. You will work within the Luck Stone Engineering and Operational Services group to analyze data and improve operational efficiency across our sites. This role involves travel to company locations in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia as needed.

    What you'll do#

    • Analyze productivity KPI data from plants using the CAT VisionLink Productivity system.
    • Collaborate with plant foremen to share findings and help teams understand what the data means.
    • Develop and execute operational improvement projects for the pit and mobile equipment fleet.
    • Support operator training programs by working with mobile equipment coaches.
    • Build CAT VST Pro models of equipment performance using productivity data.
    • Create cost benefit models to prioritize and measure the impact of performance improvements.
    • Partner with the Business Data Analyst to evaluate overall operational efficiencies.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in the Mining Engineering program at Virginia Tech.
    • Previous internship experience in a mining operation.
    • Surface aggregate experience is a plus.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Manakin Sabot, Virginia.
    • Term: Summer 2027 (June 1 through the first week of August).
    • Work environment: This role requires working in both office and outdoor settings. You will be frequently exposed to dusty conditions, various weather, and will spend time around quarry high walls and pits.
    • This is a full-time, paid internship.
