    About the role#

    As a Backend Software Engineer Intern, you will work alongside engineers to build products that serve Lyft drivers and passengers. You will have autonomy over your project while working in a collaborative environment. This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.

    What you'll do#

    • Own your specific project from start to finish.
    • Check in with team members regularly to share updates and ask questions.
    • Improve existing code through progressive refactoring.
    • Ensure system reliability by writing unit, integration, and load tests.
    • Participate in code reviews to maintain quality and share knowledge.
    • Manage continuous integration and deployment tasks.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science with a graduation date between December 2027 and Summer 2028.
    • Less than 2 years of relevant full-time work experience if you are a master's student who worked between degrees.
    • Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals.
    • Experience with databases, mobile development, and real-time technology problems.
    • Understanding of unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
    • Ability to work in a startup environment and communicate effectively.
    • Contributions to open source projects are a plus.
    • A genuine interest in community, sustainability, or transportation.

    Location & details#

    • This role is based in San Francisco, California.
    • The position follows a hybrid work model, requiring 3 days per week in the office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
