About the role#
The Honors Student Assistant reports to the Associate Director of the Honors College. This role is based in New York City and supports both campuses. You will serve as the primary point of contact for the Honors College, which houses over 1,000 students. This position requires year-round availability, including summer and winter breaks.
What you'll do#
- Greet visitors, answer questions about college procedures, and manage front desk operations.
- Handle general clerical tasks such as filing, scanning, shredding, and photocopying.
- Manage emails and phone calls, taking messages or directing inquiries to the right staff.
- Perform data entry in CRM Advise, Excel, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Forms.
- Maintain office inventory, track mail and packages, and order supplies.
- Keep the Honors Offices and Lounge clean and organized, including updating bulletin boards, seasonal decorations, and calendars.
- Submit maintenance, ITS, and security tickets as needed.
- Plan, set up, and clean up for events like the Honors Award Ceremony, movie nights, and orientation sessions.
- Prepare materials for Admissions events and speak with prospective students and families.
- Assist with thesis preparation for the Pforzheimer Honors College Conference.
- Create flyers and graphics using Canva.
- Attend training sessions and staff development meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate student in the Honors College in good standing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Forms, and Teams.
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Experience with public speaking and comfort interacting with diverse groups.
- A reliable, patient, and outgoing personality.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn new technology and multitask in a busy environment.
- Honors leadership experience and prior office experience are preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: New York, New York.
- Work modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Up to 20 hours per week during the semester and up to 35 hours per week during breaks.
