About the role#
As a Substation Engineer Intern in our Grid business unit, you will join a project team to support the execution of engineering work. You will contribute to projects involving the design of new systems, modifications, and upgrades for transmission, substation, distribution, renewable, and battery energy storage projects. You will work under the direction of senior engineers to apply your academic background to real-world engineering tasks.
What you'll do#
- Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, and designs.
- Track and evaluate project activities, progress, and data.
- Prepare specifications for the procurement of major electrical power equipment and installation services.
- Solve engineering problems using automation and AI tools to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
- Build or use automation for calculations, technical document summaries, and design documentation.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science program.
- Strong preference for degrees in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering.
- Knowledge of design techniques and principles used to produce technical plans, blueprints, and models.
- Ability to visualize parts in 3D without computer assistance.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize issues, and meet deadlines.
- Coursework or experience in coding, 3D modeling, or agentic AI is a plus.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.

- Compensation: $18.00 to $30.00 per hour.
