About the role#
SSR is seeking a Building Enclosure Intern to support enclosure consulting, design review, and field investigations. Our team focuses on the performance, durability, and integrity of exterior building systems such as roofs, walls, windows, and waterproofing. This role offers exposure to a discipline that bridges architecture, structural engineering, and materials science.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate building envelope systems for new construction and existing buildings.
- Conduct site visits to observe construction progress, inspect details, and document field conditions.
- Review architectural drawings and specifications for compliance with performance criteria.
- Participate in enclosure testing, including water infiltration testing, infrared thermography, and air barrier evaluations.
- Prepare technical reports, inspection checklists, and field documentation.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and design teams to resolve enclosure challenges.
- Apply industry standards and company policies under the guidance of project leads.
- Attend team meetings and participate in internal or external trainings, lunch-and-learns, and site walks.
- Communicate with supervisors and peers to ask questions and report progress.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Building Science, or a related field.
- Completion of at least sophomore year by the start of the internship.
- Strong attention to detail and an interest in building systems, materials, and performance.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or Bluebeam.
- Willingness to perform field work in various environmental conditions.
- Clear written communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to exercise judgment and decision-making.
- Professionalism and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
