    About the role#

    The University of New Mexico is hiring a Student Data Center Specialist to assist with the daily operations of its IT data centers. This is a full-time, paid position based on-site in Albuquerque. You will focus on physical infrastructure, hardware maintenance, and keeping technical documentation accurate.

    What you'll do#

    • Manage cable infrastructure by installing, labeling, and testing connections.
    • Mount and remove servers in racks and configure remote management.
    • Maintain inventory records and perform bi-annual data center audits.
    • Develop and update diagrams using Visio or LucidChart.
    • Document technical changes in the VIS repository and the CMDB system.
    • Prepare hardware for surplus, including storage removal and disk wiping.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a Computer Science or Computer Engineering program.
    • Ability to perform physical cable management operations.
    • Experience with server hardware installation and removal.
    • Proficiency in documentation using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Familiarity with inventory tracking and auditing processes.
