About the role#
The University of New Mexico is hiring a Student Data Center Specialist to assist with the daily operations of its IT data centers. This is a full-time, paid position based on-site in Albuquerque. You will focus on physical infrastructure, hardware maintenance, and keeping technical documentation accurate.
What you'll do#
- Manage cable infrastructure by installing, labeling, and testing connections.
- Mount and remove servers in racks and configure remote management.
- Maintain inventory records and perform bi-annual data center audits.
- Develop and update diagrams using Visio or LucidChart.
- Document technical changes in the VIS repository and the CMDB system.
- Prepare hardware for surplus, including storage removal and disk wiping.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Computer Science or Computer Engineering program.
- Ability to perform physical cable management operations.
- Experience with server hardware installation and removal.
- Proficiency in documentation using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with inventory tracking and auditing processes.
