About the role#
UVA Transit hires undergraduate students to serve as transit bus drivers. You will provide transportation services to the university community by operating transit units on fixed routes. This role supports daily operations and university-wide events. You will gain experience in transit operations and join a team of over 100 drivers, which makes trading and swapping shifts easy.
What you'll do#
- Operate a 35-foot transit bus safely on assigned routes.
- Support transit operations for university events.
- Complete training to earn a Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within your first semester.
- Work a minimum of 12 hours per week.
- Maintain availability during exams and major university events, such as home games and final exercises.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current UVA undergraduate student.
- You need a driver’s license held for at least one year with a good driving record.
- You must be able to pass a pre-employment DOT physical, which includes bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and crouching.
- You must pass a drug screen and obtain a 1-year DOT certification.
- While not required, an interest in urban planning, public health, environmental engineering, civil engineering, or political science is a plus.

- This position is located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
- Work is on-site.
- This is a full-time student wage position.
- Shifts are available between 5:00 AM and 2:00 AM, with flexibility to work around your class schedule.
