About the role#
The Office of Digital Learning & Strategy (ODLS) is looking for a student assistant to support the development of online courses. You will work alongside instructional designers and media specialists to build and refine course content within the Canvas learning management system. This position offers a view into the instructional design process and the tools used to create online education.
What you'll do#
- Design and develop new courses in Canvas and revise existing ones.
- Fix accessibility issues within course files.
- Format slide decks for video production.
- Embed video content onto Canvas pages.
- Review courses for quality assurance, including checking for alignment with learning objectives and fixing broken links.
- Watch video footage and correct machine-generated captions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an American University student.
- An active Federal Work Study (FWS) award.
- A meticulous eye for detail and a proactive approach to your work.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while remaining flexible and adaptable.
- A basic understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite and the Canvas LMS.
- A commitment to providing a high-quality online experience for students.
- Interest in instructional design, education, graphic design, or UX design is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a hybrid role based at the Spring Valley campus in Washington, DC.
- The position offers primary remote work with occasional time in the office for meetings, training, or specific projects.
- You will work 5 to 10 hours per week.
- The pay is $18.40 per hour.
- This is a semester-long appointment with the possibility of extension based on university funding.
