About the role#
Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises is hiring a Student Assistant Peer Advisor for the Upward Bound Program. This role supports academic advisors and helps high school students succeed in their studies. You will work directly with participants to clarify subject matter and facilitate group discussions.
What you'll do#
- Support academic advisors with supplemental classroom instruction.
- Act as a group facilitator for presentations and discussions.
- Help students understand and learn specific subject material.
- Keep accurate logs of all advising and tutoring services provided.
- Document the subjects covered during tutoring sessions.
- Participate in monthly training sessions and staff meetings.
- Attend occasional evening events to provide assistance.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate student with good academic standing.
- Experience working with high school students in an educational or residential setting.
- Background in tutoring high school subjects or supervising adolescents.
- Ability to tutor in subjects like English, Foreign Language, Mathematics up to Calculus, or Science up to Physics and AP levels.
- Strong conflict resolution and management skills.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
- Familiarity with TRIO or other educational equity programs.
- Training or education in peer counseling, child development, or crisis intervention.

- This is an on-site, paid position.
